Exclusions
Exclusions & custom blocks
Blocklists are a starting point. Exclusions are where you decide: what AdBolish should never block, what it always should, and which apps get an exception.
Your exclusions and custom blocks are saved on your PC.

Use cases
When you'll reach for it — Exclusions & custom blocks
Real situations, not a feature list.
- Check whether a link in an email is on a known-bad list.
- Keep a work tool or shopping site working that a list catches.
- Block a distracting site that no list covers.
- Let one game reach its telemetry server without allowing it everywhere.
What it does
Everything Exclusions & custom blocks handles
Built into AdBolish, and on by default where it should be.
Check a domain
Paste a domain or a full URL. AdBolish says blocked, excluded or allowed, with the list and rule that matched.
Exclusions
Domains that are never blocked, subdomains included: allowing example.com also allows cdn.example.com.
Custom blocks
Domains blocked on top of the lists, again including their subdomains.
App exclusions
Per-app allows added from the Realtime log: one app plus one domain, or everything it looks up.
How it works
Using it, step by step
- 1
Open Exclusions
It's in the sidebar under System, above Settings.
- 2
Check, allow or block
Use Check a domain, or type straight into Exclusions or Custom blocks.
- 3
Remove any time
Every entry has a Remove button.
Under the hood
How it actually works
How matching works.
- Matching
- A domain and all of its subdomains
- Order
- Exclusions are checked before the blocklists
- App exclusions
- In effect with the protection service
- Stored
- With the protection service, in %ProgramData%\AdBolish (administrators only)
Sites usually need several domains, so allowing one may not be enough. The Fix a broken site page shows everything blocked in the last minute, which is the faster route.
