Threats

Threat protection

A phishing link, a malicious download, a miner hidden in a page: each one starts with a lookup. AdBolish refuses it, for every app on your PC, and a notification tells you what it stopped and which app asked.

Windows 10/11 (x64) · Free · No account

Notifications show while the app runs. Blocking doesn't depend on them.

A jagged dark shard shattering against a glowing red shield, its splinters falling away.

Use cases

When you'll reach for it — Threat protection

Real situations, not a feature list.

  • Stop a phishing link in an email before the fake login page loads.
  • Block in-browser crypto-miners and crypto scams.
  • Find out which program on your PC keeps reaching a malware site.
  • Add newly registered domains, a favourite of phishing campaigns, for extra caution.

What it does

Everything Threat protection handles

Built into AdBolish, and on by default where it should be.

Threats

Malware, phishing, scams and command-and-control servers. On by default.

Crypto-mining

In-browser cryptocurrency miners and crypto scams. On by default.

Newly registered domains

Domains registered in the last week. Off by default, and downloads when you turn it on.

Dangerous site blocked

Windows notifies you with the domain and, when Windows says, the app that tried. Click it to open the Threats page.

Just now, with the app

The latest threats blocked since you opened the window, with the app that asked and an Allow menu.

Never a flood

Each domain notifies at most once an hour, and notifications come at most once a minute, with anything in between rolled into the next.

How it works

Using it, step by step

  1. 1

    Nothing to set up

Threats and Crypto-mining are on from the first run, along with the notifications.

  2. 2

Open Threats to see what was stopped

Dangerous sites stopped lists each site with its category and blocks. Click one to see its domains.

  3. 3

Follow up on a repeat offender

A program you don't recognise repeatedly contacting malware sites may be unwanted software. Scan your PC with Windows Security.

Under the hood

How it actually works

The lists, and how you hear about them.

Lists
Threats, Crypto-mining (on); Newly registered domains (off)
Notifications
On by default; at most once a minute, once an hour per domain
Quiet blocks
Newly registered domains are blocked without a notification
Switch
Notify me when a dangerous site is blocked, on Threats and in Settings

Lists occasionally catch a legitimate site, and newly registered domains can block a brand-new legitimate one. Allow it from the Threats page or Fix a broken site.
